Using wellbeing questionnaires without losing the human context

How measures such as WHO-5, PHQ-9, GAD-7, SDQ, and appointment feedback can support better conversations.

Use measures to inform, not replace, clinical judgment

Short questionnaires can help a counsellor notice trends, prepare follow-up, and make progress visible. They are most useful when the professional explains why the measure is being used and how the result will be interpreted.

Keep the request lightweight

Service users are more likely to complete a measure when the link is secure, short, and clearly connected to the support they just received. A good workflow avoids long emails and unnecessary disclosure in the message itself.

Close the loop

Scores and feedback return to the assigned professional and appropriate admin workflows. Broad organisation reporting stays aggregated or status-based unless a separate access route has been agreed.
